Algorithmen anwenden – algorithmisch denken. “Algorithmizität” als Brücke zwischen Geisteswissenschaften und Informatik?

Venue: Maison du Savoir – Auditoires 2, avenue de l’Université, 4365 Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg

Organization: Manuel Burghardt (Leipzig University), Jonathan D. Geiger (Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz), Jan Horstmann (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster), Rabea Kleymann (ZfL), Jascha Schmitz (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Silke Schwandt (Universität Bielefeld)

The workshop, organized by the DHd working group Digital Humanities Theorie at the #DHd2023 conference, discusses the issue of algorithmicity in the humanities. As its starting point, it assumes that both latent as well as explicit algorithmic structures may be found in the individual disciplines and work areas of the (digital) humanities. The workshop asks for the preconditions, potentials, and implications of algorithmicity in the humanities under the three aspects of algorithmicity as

  1. a concept in the theoretical conceptual work,
  2. a specific (humanistic) epistemic and thought structure and
  3. as a (trans)disciplinary compass.
