Christoph Cornelißen (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main): Das kurze und das lange 20. Jahrhundert. Über die Probleme, einen Anfang und ein Ende zu finden

Both time and space are metahistorical basic categories. It is therefore all but surprising that, time and again, historians were particularly interested in questions of periodization. On the one hand, the lecture will discuss the general problem of demarcating epochs. On the other hand, it will introduce the debates on the “short” and “long” 20th century and the corresponding interpretive approaches.

Christoph Cornelißen is Professor of Modern History at Goethe University Frankfurt.
