Getting started with SCoT

Venue: online via Zoom
Organized by Alexander Friedrich
Research project(s): The 20th Century in Basic Concepts

SCoT (Sense Clustering over Time) is an open-source tool for the detection and analysis of the sense of words and their transformation over time. The tool was developed especially as an application for the digital history of concepts. It allows for the visualization and analysis of semantic structures of (concept-)words and the detection of typical text passages in which the words occur in the sought meaning.

The workshop will start by introducing the basic functions of the tool as well as the corpora linked to it. This will be followed by practical examples that demonstrate how SCoT can be used within the context-historical research practice.
