Research project(s): Shipwreck and Lifesaving in European Societies since 1800

In conversation with Michael Diers, we will explore the iconography of shipwrecks in contemporary art. The focus will be on the political meanings of such pictorial works, the way in which they see themselves as emphatically contemporary representations, and their relationship to the “afterlife” of forms and codes of representation which is at the methodological core of the study of iconographies.
