Tatjana Petzer: Kleider machen Zukunft: Smart Clothes & Wearables gestern und heute

Venue: Museum für Kommunikation, Leipziger Str. 16, 10117 Berlin

Lecture in the context of the exhibition BACK TO FUTURE. Technikvisionen zwischen Fiktion und Realität (3 Dec 2021 – 28 Aug 2022) at the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin

Early science fiction had already envisioned that textiles and accessories would blend with technology and would ultimately not only transform the wardrobe of the future but humans themselves. Today, high tech suits that grant superpowers and popular culture’s body gadgets compete with innovative Smart-Tex creations from design research. At the same time, wearable technology and the intelligent clothes of tomorrow are still reminiscent of their futuristic predecessors.

Tatjana Petzer is a literary scholar and slavist. From 2010–2021, she was head of the project Synergy. A History of Knowledge.
