Zwischenräume. Nachbarschaften im Berlin-Comic “Jein”

Venue: Livestream
Reading and Talk with: Büke Schwarz (author) and Marie Schröer (Cultural and literary scholar, comic researcher, Universität Potsdam)
Moderation: Christina Ernst (ZfL)

Program

In her graphic novel “Jein,” Büke Schwarz describes the relationship between art, identity, and politics in Berlin during the 2017 Turkish constitutional referendum from an autofictional perspective. To what extent can or should art be political? Is the question of political art one of decision or attribution? How does the comic form take up a position between image and text? And how do you draw a multilingual comic? Following a reading from her graphic novel, Büke Schwarz, Marie Schröer (Universität Potsdam) and Christina Ernst (ZfL Berlin) will discuss the neighborhoods of both author and figure, text and image, and the various art forms in the graphic novel.

In cooperation of the Museum für KommuniKation Berlin and Neighborhood in Contemporary Berlin Literature, Project of the Leibniz Center for Literary and Cultural Research, as part of the virtual festival Comicinvasion (28/29 Nov 2020).
