The body, which defines the boundary between self and other, silently structures our inner life and also mediates our interactions with the world. Psychoanalysis originated in the study of hysterical symptoms, and has always been concerned with the embodied mind - its sources, boundaries and metaphors. Cognitive scientists have paid comparatively little attention to such issues. Recent advances in neuroscience, however, have produced a plethora of new insights into the embodied brain. Embodied cognition and emotion are now major topics of scientific interest. This congress brings leading authorities on these topics into dialogue, creating an unprecedented opportunity for interdisciplinary convergence.
