Susan Taubes [*1928] emigrated from Hungary to the USA in 1939, taught history of religion and participated in the Open Thea ter. Shortly after the publication of her novel Divorcing, she took her own life in 1969 at the age of 41. The editor of her writings, Sigrid Weigel talks with Taubes’ biographer Christina Pareigis about the extraordinary Jewish intellectual, whose life was marked by experiences of foreignness and the search for identity.

 

Sigrid Weigel is the former director of the ZfL and Professor emerita at the Technical University of Berlin. From 2008–2014 she was head of the project Susan Taubes Edition.

The literary scholar Christina Pareigis worked as a research assistant for the “Susan Taubes archive” at the ZfL and as a research associate for the project Susan Taubes Edition from 2008–2014. From 2014–2018 she was head of the project Susan Taubes Biography.
